History

The Plymouth Area Community Closet (PACC) began in 1951 when it was discovered that some families found themselves wanting local resources to help keep food on the table during the holiday season. In the beginning, PACC serviced only 25 local families and has since grown to serve over 250 families in 15 surrounding communities.

PACC has operated many different recourses for Plymouth area residents throughout the years, not stopping at simply providing a food pantry to the community. Clothing was deemed to be an extremely important and in-demand necessity for locals. “The Shop”, a drop-off location for clothing, was created just a few short years after the food pantry was established. The clothing was sold at near nothing costs and, when needed, it was given away without charge.

By 1994, a thrift shop, named “Second Comings”, was created in the basement of the Plymouth Book Exchange building on Main street. Fast forward to 2004, the building was moved and renamed “The Plymouth Area Community Closet Thrift”. In 2007, the Lakes Region Community Services took charge of the shop. This arrangement stayed in place until 2018 when PACC took back running the management, hiring staff, and reorganizing the sales floor.
